Blog post # 20 - BILINGUALISM IN CANADA... REALLY?

Blog post # 20 - BILINGUALISM IN CANADA... REALLY?

PLEASE SEE THE

VERY IMPORTANT

MESSAGE AT THE BOTTOM

OF THIS RANT

More Anti English rhetoric from the very people who  ---
(when they want service in French throughout the rest of Canada outside of the province of Quebec)

--- are the loudest and most vocal about how "Canada has two official languages."

A friend recently sent me the following news update headline.

--------------------

Quebec’s English school boards hire constitutional lawyer to fight plan to eliminate elections

http://montrealgazette.com/news/quebec/english-school-boards-hires-constitutional-lawyer-to-fight-plan-to-eliminate-elections

“We’re trying to send the message that we, the English-speaking community, are not to be taken for granted,” D’Aoust said in an interview Monday. “We have rights, some of which they have recognized, but you just cannot walk over those rights, you just cannot take them away.”

--------------------

Thanks once again for the info Eric.
It's good to see SOMEONE is fighting and standing up... FINALLY.

But folks,

what I find MOST annoyingly interesting and MOST TELLING about this article
is the fact that the writer { gvendeville@montrealgazette.com }
of a supposed English article in a supposed English newspaper includes the following section which also includes a link to some governmental "data from the education ministery."

----------------------------

"Bergman said abolishing school board elections would accelerate the decline in the number of anglophone students in Quebec. In 1971, there were 256,000 elementary and high school students studying in English. By 2013, there were 102,000, according to data from the education ministry."

----------------------------

And, for reasons unknown ---

but I would offer a guess that
it's part of the same ol same ol reminiscent cr@p
that can be found in examples like this ...

--- clicking on the link from the article just simply serves to remind us all of our old friend George Orwell's famous novel as ...
THE LINK

in this
English article
in this
English newspaper

takes the reader to
the

 -- French data --

that's right...

The link used in the English newspaper article turns out to be a link to the governments FRENCH data spread sheet info.

I looked around and yes, there is a
main English government page
{ http://www.mels.gouv.qc.ca/en/home/ }
but, I didn't bother with the effort to see if there is an exact English version of this particular document which the writer COULD HAVE / SHOULD HAVE used (if an English version actually DOES EXIST) and linked to that instead of to the French version in this English newspaper article.

Never mind why and how this happened, it is still indicative of the kinds of A-typical things that are done by those who are firmly planted in positions that can make a difference, as they push their "nationalistic agenda."

These kinds of things are also a clear testament as to WHY what is happening in Canada right now
* IS MUCH MORE SERIOUS *
and is NOT a fluffy little foray into the possibility that we could actually -- for real --  end up in a truly "fair" kind of bilingual country.

That is not to say that I wouldn't (if done fairly, equitably and with a true sense of respect) be in favor of a fairly constituted bilingual concept of Canada, however ...

The constant and VERY consistent negative actions on behalf of the FPTB make it

 PRETTY DARN OBVIOUS
that

-- fair and equatable --
IS NOT
THE SENTIMENT THAT EMANATES FROM THEIR SIDE OF THE FENCE

EXAMPLES INCLUDE

The French PTB
removing the Canadian flag from the national assembly in the province of Quebec

An action which obviously (as you see in the video) goes hand in hand with a complete and utter disrespect for Canada, the Queen and the institutions for which they are paid (in Canadian dollars) to serve in, in the first place.

The actions of the MLA's in this video also gives us all a STRONG indication of how intrenched this "French nationalism" really is.

Not having the Canadian flag present as they purposefully and disrespectfully mumble through the first part only to "pour it on" for the part that pledges their allegiance to Quebec.
 C'mon, really?
The rest of Canada is not supposed to notice?

 * Replacing the Canadian flag on Tim Horton's cups

with some snow flake looking symbol
Replacing the Canadian flag from the Labatt's Blue bottles

with some other "French nationalism looking symbol" or another (?!)

REALLY ?
What's wrong with Canada and the Canadian flag?

Ask yourself.
Does the average every day French person from Quebec have the power to have these companies do such things?

The answer is NO... Not directly anyway

Does the average everyday French person get turned off by the fact that the Canadian flag is missing on their products?

The answer is, probably not.

As a matter of fact, many average French people probably feel a sense of empowerment and French pride as a result of such goings on.

However, those who can AND DO make these companies comply with such regulations and product appearances in the province of Quebec are the GENUINE reasons why English speaking Canadians should be very wary of where "the power is" and what is really going on in this country.

What about Bill 101?

Here we have a law that diminishes the English language and makes French THE ONLY allowable LANGUAGE in a province that resides

-- INSIDE --
THE COUNTRY OF
CANADA

How can a majority people (the English) within a country (Canada) find themselves visiting (or living in for that matter) a part of their own country where their own majority language is deemed illegal (or, third class at best)?

Bill 101 is a law in the province of Quebec with the following clauses in it {sections 45 & 46 }

Clauses which  unequivocally state that
the people in Quebec DO NOT have to work in
ANY LANGUAGE
other than French
Makes life tough for English people who still live there for sure

The French PTB deem that
"bilingualism in the work place is a nuisance"
CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?
"A NUISANCE?"
They want to
DO AWAY WITH BILINGUALISM
all together

As far as the French PTB are concerned
"BILINGUALISM IS DEATH"

How can we accept one part of Canada being
 FRENCH ONLY
while throughout the rest of Canada
(the English speakers)
are forced
 THROUGH FRENCH IMMERSION
AND FALSELY INJECTED FEARS OF LOST OPPORTUNITIES

into knowing French in order to appease those who wish to live, work and be accommodated in French ONLY?
REALLY ?
Could this really be happening?

Despite the FACT that Quebec is merely a province inside the country of Canada, the French citizens / workers
Otherwise known as -- "Canadian citizens"
 in the province of Quebec
DO NOT have to provide service in English TO ANYONE.  They are also legally protected in NOT DOING SO by their own laws and their own "provincial" government.

If that wasn't bad enough, we then see many examples of how the the French PTB badger everyone else into speaking in French back to them, both INSIDE the province of Quebec ...
"he should either speak French,
or they should FIND SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT."
And everywhere else where they gain any sort of foothold.

YIKES...

On and on it goes...

I ponder openly... Who appears as the fools in all of this?

Given the insurmountable evidence showing how the French PTB treat the English speaking people, are those English speaking Canadians really so numbingly easily programmed, and so placidly naive as to believe that the French PTB actually want equality and
-- a true version of "bilingualism?" --

Do the English speaking people really  believe that the French PTB want the English language and English speaking people to even exist (other than in a secondary role) at the end of this so called...

QUEST TO MAKE CANADA
A
"BILINGUAL COUNTRY"
FROM COAST TO COAST

C'mon... WE CAN CLEARLY SEE

what the FPTB have done, and are doing...

-- They are doing everything they can to abolish English schools in the province of Quebec.
-- They have segregated busing for school kids in many areas.
-- They have forced the English speaking people to leave the province of Quebec
-- They are now forcing the English speaking people to leave New Brunswick in droves as well.

These English speaking people then scurry off to some other temporary "English bastion" within other provinces only to one day, not too long into the future, find that the French PTB have followed them to those other provinces and are now demanding to be able to live, work and be accommodated completely IN FRENCH ONLY in those other provinces as well.

Or as they put it,
Je reve Ottawa
"I Dream of Ottawa"

Think about this people...

REALLY THINK...

Doesn't it seem obvious that ...

One side is playing chess while the other side is playing checkers.

Doesn't it seem like it's time to
 --- WAKE UP ---
and realize the ramifications of all of this
---------------------------
Drawing an equitable line in the sand
IS NOT "ANTI FRENCH" OR "ANTI ANYTHING"

It is simply standing up for
YOUR RIGHTS
(you do have rights)
DON'T let them be trampled on

Stand up for yourself, your family & your country

It's OK to
-- PUSH FOR FAIRNESS --

There is nothing wrong with French on signs etc
but
THERE IS indeed SOMETHING
VERY DISTASTEFUL
within the incessant push for French to be
DOMINANT
IN A MAJORITY ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRY

  1. Are English speaking Canadians too nice? No, they are in total denial!

  2. A few years ago a Toronto forensic accountant put the cost of Canadian bilingualism at $20 BILLION a year (in lost GDP), up from $17 BILLION a couple of years earlier. What a disgrace! This could pay for a lot of infrastructure and transportation.
